INGREDIENTS

  • Thur dhal - 1/2 cup
  • Vegetables - 100 gm (as you wish)
  • Onion - 1 Medium size
  • Tomato - 1 Medium size
  • Green chilly - 2
  • Garlic - 2 cloves
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Sambar powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Salt - to taste
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp.
  • Black gram dhal - 1/2 tsp.

For masala

  • Bengal gram dhal - 1 tsp.
  • Coriander seeds - 1tsp.
  • Fenugreek - 1/4 tsp
  • Red chilly - 1

Fry the above ingredients without oil and grind into smooth dry powder using mixi.

METHOD OF PREPARATION

In a vessel take thur dhal and wash pour 1/2 a litre of water to it. Cut onion, Tomato, sambar powder, Green chillies, Vegetables into small pieces and add to the dhal. Cook this using pressure cooker. In a pan Pour 2 tsp. of oil and add mustard seeds, black gram dhal, cumin seeds, and smashed garlic. Pour the cooked dhal into the pan and add salt to it. Now add the above masala into a small quantity of water and add to the sambar. Keep boiling for 2 minutes. Garnish with curry and coriander leaves. This can be served with idli , dosa and pongal.

Vegetables: Brinjal, Chow chow, Beans and carrot, Potato can be added for this sambar.
