keerai kootu
ingredients
- Keerai(greens) - 1 bundle
- Green gram dhal - 3 tbl. sp.
- Salt - 1 tsp.
- Asafoetida - a bit
- Onion - 1 small size
- Tomato - 1 small size
- Garlic - 4
- Sombu powder - 1/2 tsp.
Mulai keerai (amaranth) or any other meerai varieties can be used.
for masala
- Grated coconut - 1tsp.
- Fenugreek - 1 tsp.
- Red chillies - 2
method of preparation
Wash the keerai well and cut into small pieces and cook till very soft. Cook the dhal seperately and add the keerai and salt.
Grind 1 table sp. of grated coconut, 1 tsp. of fenugreek and 2 red chillies into smooth paste and add to the above and mix well. Keep low fire and simmer for five minutes. In a small quantity of oil fry the chopped onion, garlic, sombu powder and tomato until brown colour exist and add to the kootu. Dissolve a tsp. of rice flour in a little water and add. Season with blackgram dhal and asafoetida. |
