chicken biriyani

ingredients

  • Chicken - 500 grams
  • Basmathi rice - 2 cups.
  • Ginger garlic paste - 4 tsp.
  • Curd - 2 tsp.
  • Green chillies - 4
  • Mint and coriander leaves - one handful (grind into smooth paste)
  • Curry leaves - 1 tsp. chopped.
  • Onion - 2 medium size (Sliced)
  • Tomato - 2 small size(cut into small pieces)
  • Bay leaves - 2
  • Cinnamon - a small stick
  • Cloves - 3
  • Cardamom - 2
  • Oil - as required
  • Sambar powder - 3/4 tsp.
  • Ghee - 5 tsp.
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp.

    Method of preparation

  • Pressure cook the chicken pieces with some salt, 1/4 tsp of sambar powder, pepper and turmeric powder for 5 minutes.
  • In a pan pour 4 tsp. of oil and add bay leaves, cinnamon, cloves and cardamom.
  • Then add sliced onion, green chillies and curry leaves to that pan.
  • Saute until the onion becomes golden brown.
  • Now add the tomatoes to that and saute for 5 minutes.
  • Take a vessel which could be kept inside the pressurecooker comfortable.
  • Pour 4 cups of water (drain out the water from the boiled chicken and include this water to the above measurement) in that vessel and add the fried items to it.
  • Now wash the pan and pour 2 tsp. of oil, then add ginger garlic paste and curd.
  • Saute for 5 minutes then add it to the vessel.
  • Now add the 5 tsp. of ghee in a pan then add mint and coriander leaves paste to it and saute for 2 minutes then add that also to the vessel.
  • Add 1/2 tsp. of sambar powder, salt and turmeric powder to the vessel and keep boiling this mixture for 5 minutes.
  • Now wash the basmathi rice and add to the vessel then cook for 3 minutes.
  • Now add the chicken pieces to the vessel and mix well slowly without breaking the rice.
  • Now keep this vessel into the pressure cooker.
  • After the first whistle, keep the gas stove in simmer for 15 minutes and put off the stove.
  • Now the delicious and nice flavoured chicken biriyani is ready.
  • This can be served with onion raitha or with chicken kuzhambu, chicken gravy etc.
